BUILDING UQBAR with the stitch-and-glue technique

BASIC STEPS

1Cut the hull panels after tracing each one directly on the plywood with the help of our precise diagrams.

Example: Half bottom plank (trace symetrically)

          2. Stitch the hull panels together by twisting  short  lengths of  copper wire (or plastic ties)  through  pre-drilled matching holes.

3. Glue the panels together by applying a thick  epoxy fillet  on the inside of the seams, covering the wires.

                        4. Snip off the wire ends on the outside, and fair.

5. Epoxy fiberglass tape onto the outside seams.

Time for assembly depends on the selected Uqbar model and the skill of the builder. For example, the hull of UQBAR 8 can be built in 7 to 9 hours, and the whole boat in one weekend, as many amateur builders have done at home and in supervised workshops that we sponsored.
The step-by-step instructions list approximate times for some of the procedures,  but these vary with experience and personal work style.

Finishing touches include:  fairing, smoothing/sanding, painting and/or varnishing, installing hardware. Sailboat models will require building kick-up rudder, daggerboard, mast, boom and sprit, and installing sailing hardware.
